Woman fatally shot in Chicago during attempted carjacking

CHICAGO (AP) - Chicago police say a 59-year-old woman was fatally shot by a man attempting to carjack the vehicle she was riding in.

The Chicago Tribune reports that police responded to a call from the West Humboldt Park neighborhood on the city's West Side about a possible carjacking shortly after 7 a.m. Sunday. When they arrived they learned that a 70-year-old woman, 71-year-old man and the 59-year-old woman were in a vehicle when a man approached and pulled a gun on the driver in an attempt to steak the vehicle.

When the driver started to drive off, the gunman opened fire and shot the 59-year-old woman in the back of the head. The woman whose name has not been released died a short time later.

Police say no arrests have been made.
