Indianapolis woman struck by train after stepping out of car

INGALLS, Ind. (AP) - Authorities say an Indianapolis woman whose car became stuck on railroad tracks was struck and killed by a train when she stepped out of the vehicle.
The Madison County Sheriff's Department says 30-year-old Amber Louise Kates died shortly before 9 p.m. Wednesday at a crossing in the town of Ingalls, about 20 miles northeast of Indianapolis.
Witnesses told investigators that Kates drove around a crossing arm, and her car became stuck on the tracks. They said she left her vehicle to avoid being struck by the train but was unsuccessful.
She was pronounced dead at the scene.
