Police release name of woman killed in lake lift plunge
MONTICELLO, Ind. (AP) - Authorities have released the name of a woman killed when a lift that ferries people back and forth from a northern Indiana lake plunged down a steep embankment.
The White County Sheriff's Department says 54-year-old Angela Elder of Lafayette was pronounced dead at the scene following Friday's accident at Lake Freeman, about 25 miles north of Lafayette.
Three other people on the lift were critically injured and flown to hospitals with life-threatening injuries. They are 59-year-old Kris Klink and 57-year-old Tyra Klink, both of Monticello, and 62-year-old Ernie Elder Jr. of Lafayette.
Police say a preliminary investigation indicates the four victims were on the private lift when for an unknown reason it accelerated rapidly down the steep embankment below a home and crashed into a boat dock at the bottom.
