East St. Louis police officer who earned $200K put on leave

EAST ST. LOUIS, Ill. (AP) - An East St. Louis police officer who made nearly $200,000 last year is now on administrative leave pending an internal department review.

City Manager Daffney Moore confirmed that Sgt. Mario Fennoy was placed on leave Wednesday, but she declined to discuss specifics of the ongoing investigation.

The Belleville News-Democrat reports that Fennoy is a 21-year East St. Louis Police Department veteran. His base salary last year was about $69,000, but with overtime the 47-year-old earned nearly $200,000.

The News-Democrat recently reported that some East St. Louis police officers amassed large amounts of overtime last year, enabling many of them to make at least $100,000. Fennoy topped the list of officer salaries, earning nearly $200,000, largely through overtime pay.

Moore declined comment on whether any other officers were being investigated.
