Clemson adds ex-Duke forward Cheek to women's hoops staff

CLEMSON, S.C. (AP) - Former Duke player Joy Cheek has been added to Clemson's women's basketball staff by new coach Amanda Butler.

Cheek has served as an assistant coach at her alma mater, at Ohio State and at Vanderbilt for the past two seasons.

She was an all-Atlantic Coast Conference selection at Duke - and won all four meetings with the Tigers during her time there.

Butler was named last month to replace Audra Smith, who was dismissed after five seasons.

Butler said the 29-year-old Cheek was among the top young assistants in the game and would relate to current and prospective players.

Cheek finished her Duke career with 1,148 points. She was drafted by the WNBA's Indiana Fever in 2010.
