Crash sends vehicle into Chicago bus shelter; 1 dead, 4 hurt

CHICAGO (AP) - Police say a driver lost control of a vehicle following a crash, fatally struck a woman on a Chicago sidewalk and smashed into a bus shelter.

Chicago police say a 67-year-old woman was pronounced dead at the scene of Tuesday evening's crash in the city's Calumet Heights neighborhood. Police say a 3-year-old girl and two women, ages 20 and 21, at the Chicago Transit Authority bus shelter had minor injuries.

WLS-TV broadcast cellphone video showing the crash's fiery aftermath.

The Cook County medical examiner identified the woman who died as Janice Gilmore. Police say she was standing on the sidewalk when the vehicle that eventually hit her collided with a car nearby as one of the vehicles made a turn. Police say a passenger in the car also was injured.
