Kindness in Mundelein, a Glendale Heights getaway, a try for the Triangle in Mount Prospect and more.

Is peace at hand?

President Donald Trump's chief national security adviser is an avowed war hawk who still calls the costly, based-on-a-mistake war in Iraq a good idea and has called for pre-emptive strikes on North Korea and Iran. What now can we hope for in preparation for an expected summit with Kim Jong Un?

We need a score card - by Joe?

President Trump changes his cabinet and senior staff roster as often as a baseball manager experiments with his lineup card. Like Cubs manager Joe Maddon plays with his lineup card, as a matter of fact. What if Joe took a crack at the White House lineup? Try not to ...

Helping hand

When she came across a woman in her 60s living in a car stalled at a shopping center parking lot, Mundelein police Officer Katie Smith said she just wanted to help "and not make anybody's life more difficult than it already is." Smith arranged to charge the battery and provided gas so the woman could get to a shelter. Smith will receive a commendation and our respect.

Getaway bike?

Nobody likes a bank robber, but the guy who recently held up a TCF Bank in Glendale Heights at least showed some creativity in his getaway. He pedaled away on a bike.

Leading the way

Wheeling High School has high hopes for its expanded manufacturing program - and not just as an inducement to lure Amazon's HQ2 to the Northwest suburbs. As we mentioned in an editorial this week, the program teaches cutting-edge skills that are in high demand, and serves as a shining example of how schools adapt to changing needs.

Too much to hope for?

Illinois' millionaire v. billionaire race between Bruce Rauner and J.B. Pritzker already is getting predictions to top the $280 million California governor's campaign currently holding the title of the most expensive ever. Will it also be the most rancorous and negative ever? Unfortunately, that's what money seems most able to buy.

Anybody know how to count?

The question no longer is if the DuPage County Election Commission will mess up on Election Day, the question is how.

We are free to disagree

There are going to be a lot of marchers coming out this morning for the seven March For Our Lives events in the suburbs and some of them may be met by people who disagree with them. We support everyone's right to be heard, we ask only that everyone respect each other. Surely, that's not too much to ask.

Finally, a 'Triangle' success?

So, it looks like Mount Prospect has another potential project for the Triangle, that part of north downtown that the village has tried without success to redevelop for years. Mount Prospect has a friendly, inviting downtown, and this can only help it stay that way.

Keep it up, Cam

The Loyola basketball story has captured our hearts, not to mention our collective blood pressure. What is so cool about the Ramblers' run to today's Elite Eight game is that Jacobs graduate Cam Krutwig has been instrumental to the team's success as a freshman. To think, a year ago the young man had just completed his high school basketball career.

And of course ...

We'll be rooting for Krutwig and the Ramblers as they take on equally spunky Kansas State. This kind of heart is what the NCAA tournament is all about.
