Norman to pay $60K over refusal to release Mixon video

NORMAN, Okla. (AP) - The city of Norman has agreed to pay $60,000 in attorney fees to settle a lawsuit over its refusal to release surveillance video that showed former University of Oklahoma and now-NFL running back Joe Mixon striking a woman in a deli.

The Norman City Council approved the agreement this week.

The Oklahoma Association of Broadcasters sued the city over its refusal to release the 2014 video, arguing it was a public record. Norman maintained the original video was appropriately returned to the owner and the city's copy was part of confidential litigation files. The state Supreme Court ultimately ordered its release.

Mixon was suspended for the 2014 season and later sentenced in court to a year of probation in a plea deal. He now plays for the Cincinnati Bengals.
