Chicago police lieutenant files sex discrimination lawsuit

CHICAGO (AP) - A Chicago police lieutenant who was the first woman to command the department's Marine and Helicopter Unit has filed a sex discrimination lawsuit that alleges she was removed from that post because her immediate superior didn't want a woman to hold the job.

The Chicago Tribune reports that Lt. Allison Schloss alleges in the federal lawsuit against the department that Deputy Chief Steve Georgas "resented" that she was named by then-Superintendent Garry McCarthy to head the unit in 2014. She contends that Georgas did things like overrule her on personnel decisions before "terminating her command' in 2016. She now commands the Major Accident Investigation Unit.

Georgas now heads security at Metropolitan Pier and Exposition Authority, which operates Navy Pier and McCormick Place. He didn't immediately return a call for comment.
