2 young children of slain woman found safe by police

MARKHAM, Ill. (AP) - Police say two suburban Chicago children who were considered missing when they were taken after their mother was shot to death have been found safe.

Markham police Chief Mack Sanders says the children - ages 2 and 3 - were found Thursday at their paternal grandmother's home and appeared to be OK.

Authorities say the children's father, Lynn Washington, is a person of interest in Wednesday's killing of 27-year-old Lakisha Roby.

Sanders says Roby was seen arguing with Washington after leaving a club with another man. Sanders stressed that police in the Chicago suburb are not calling Washington a suspect. He is being sought for questioning.

Sanders says Washington, who picked the children up from a friend, is barred from contacting them by a court order.

Roby obtained the order of protection after citing abuse by Washington.
