Argument in Batavia Steak 'N Shake drive-through ends in shooting

An argument that began in the drive-through lane of a Batavia Steak 'N Shake ended in a shooting that sent one man to the hospital, Batavia police said late Thursday night.

The argument began sometime before 6:25 p.m. at the restaurant on the 1900 block of McKee Street in Batavia. The victim said a man in a red sedan fired numerous shots at him, hitting him once, police said.

The driver of the red vehicle then attempted to leave the parking lot but lost control and struck a parked car. The driver did eventually flee the scene with moderate damage to the sedan's front passenger bumper and fender, police said.

Police are searching for the shooter. It isn't known if other people were in the red vehicle.

Police found out about the shooting when they were alerted at 6:25 p.m. by the medical personnel at the hospital where they were treating the shooting victim.

Batavia police said they could not say whether the shooting victim drove himself to the hospital. They also did not reveal his condition.

Batavia police said the Steak 'N Shake has resumed normal operations.
