Auburn releases Malzahn's new 7-year, $49 million contract

AUBURN, Ala. (AP) - Auburn coach Gus Malzahn will make at least $49 million over the next seven years under his new contract.

Under the deal released Tuesday, Malzahn will make $6.7 million this year with a $100,000 annual raise. He's scheduled to make $7.3 million in 2024.

If Auburn fires Malzahn without cause, the university would owe him 75 percent of the remaining contract value. If he takes another job before Dec. 30, 2019, Malzahn would owe $7 million. That number would go down to $1 million after 2022.

Auburn agreed to the new deal in December. Malzahn had been making about $4.725 million.

The Tigers won their last five regular season games, including double-digit victories over Georgia and Alabama. The Crimson Tide beat the Bulldogs in the national championship game.
