Illinois man who killed wife's divorce lawyer dies in prison

GREENVILLE, Ill. (AP) - A Southern Illinois man who killed his ex-wife's divorce lawyer before he led police on a 13-week manhunt two decades ago has died in prison.
The (Belleville) News-Democrat reports that the state's department of corrections says that 61-year-old Kelly Lee McGinnis died Monday in Lawrence Correctional Center in Eastern Illinois. The agency says it is investigating McGinnis's death but Bond County Circuit Judge John Knight - the county prosecutor in the 1990s - says McGinnis apparently died of the flu.
McGinnis killed attorney Thomas Meyer of Greenville in 1996. Thirteen weeks later he was arrested after he shot up the office of his own lawyer, whom he believed had thrown his divorce case. Nobody was injured.
