Top CSU administrator who led CPS to leave post in March

CHICAGO (AP) - The chief administrator officer of Chicago State University, a longtime educator and former Democratic lieutenant governor candidate, plans to step down from the post.

Paul Vallas tells the Chicago Sun-Times says his job "is done." Vallas has been a top administrative official at the college since 2017. His contract ends July 1, but says he plans to leave March 31.

Republican Gov. Bruce Rauner pushed to have Vallas, a former political rival, named to a leadership post at Chicago State. Vallas was former Gov. Pat Quinn's running mate in an unsuccessful 2014 re-election bid.

Vallas has previously served as the head of public schools in Chicago, Philadelphia and New Orleans.

Vallas' name is also being circulated as a possible candidate for the 2019 Chicago mayor's race.
