Suspect charged after police chase in Missouri, Illinois

MOLINE ACRES, Mo. (AP) - An Illinois man is accused of assaulting police and resisting arrest after allegedly ramming a police car and leading police on a two-state chase.

St. Louis County prosecutors on Thursday filed charges against 28-year-old Nicholas Settles of Jerseyville, Illinois.

Police spotted a stolen vehicle Wednesday night in north St. Louis County and tried to pull it over. St. Louis County Police spokesman Shawn McGuire says the suspect rammed the police car head-on, backed up, and rammed it again. Officers were not hurt.

A lengthy chase went into St. Louis city then into Illinois. The stolen vehicle eventually crashed into a parked police vehicle in Alton, Illinois, where Settles was arrested.

Settles is hospitalized from bites from a police dog that occurred during his arrest.
