Man pleads guilty to murder of Evansville woman last year

EVANSVILLE, Ind. (AP) - A man accused of fatally shooting a 37-year-old Evansville mother of two in front of her family has pleaded guilty to murder.

Richard Brian Worley also pleaded guilty to five counts of attempted murder Thursday under a plea agreement in which he would be sentenced to 85 years in prison.

The Evansville Courier & Press reports the plea agreement still needs a judge's approval.

Worley admitted to killing Chanda Hatt in October after lying in wait for the family to return from a religious retreat and opening fire on them with an AR-15 assault rifle. He had been housesitting for the family.

The attempted murder charges allege Worley shot at Hatt's husband, Daniel Hatt, their two children and two Evansville police officers who tried to resuscitate Hatt.
