Illinois woman gets 15 years for crash that killed teen

CROWN POINT, Ind. (AP) - A judge has sentenced an Illinois woman to 15 years in prison on charges stemming from a high-speed police chase that ended with a crash killing a 13-year-old northwestern Indiana girl.

The (Northwest Indiana) Times reports 28-year-old Jessica S. Pichon, 28, of Danville, Illinois, learned her sentence Wednesday after pleading guilty to two counts of resisting law enforcement.

The pursuit began after Pichon stole a case of beer from an East Chicago supermarket last Feb. 15. Her boyfriend, 32-year-old Donnell Howard Jr. of Highland, led police on a chase that ended when his car collided with another vehicle in Hammond, killing Julianna Chambers and seriously injuring her grandmother.

Howard also was sentenced to 15 years on the same charges Jan. 11.
