Winter storm, power outages forecast for southern Indiana

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - The National Weather Service says up to a quarter-inch of ice and 2-4 inches of snow will create hazardous conditions across much of south central and southern Indiana.

The weather service issued a winter storm warning for the region on Friday. It also issued a winter weather advisory for portions of central, east central and west central Indiana, saying total snow and sleet accumulations of 1-3 inches and ice accumulations of .01-.02 inches were expected.

Many affected schools, businesses and nonprofits reported they would be closed or operate on delays Friday.

Duke Energy said Thursday afternoon that based on the forecast at that time, it expected widespread, multiple-day power outages. It serves many southern and central Indiana counties.
