Gary pedestrian trying to beat train falls at crossing, dies

GAY, Ind. (AP) - Gary police say a man has died after falling into the path of an oncoming train.

Lt. Thomas Pawlak says the 51-year-old Gary man was walking with a friend Monday night when he attempted to beat the train by running across the tracks. However, his friend tells police the man slipped and fell on the tracks before being struck by the train.

The Lake County Coroner's Office identified the victim as Thomas Glasco. It ruled the death an accident by blunt force trauma.

The (Northwest Indiana) Times reports the man's name wasn't immediately released pending notification of family..
