Off-duty Chicago cop involved in shooting during carjacking

CHICAGO (AP) - Chicago authorities say an off-duty officer has been involved in a shooting after two suspects, including a juvenile, attempted to carjack the vehicle the officer was driving.

The officer wasn't injured, but a boy was hospitalized for a gunshot wound.

Police say the officer was sitting in his personal car around 6:30 p.m. Monday when two people allegedly tried to rob the officer. The officer fired his service weapon, which struck a juvenile in the stomach. The boy was transported to a hospital and is in stable condition.

Authorities are looking for the second person.

One weapon and the officer's gun were recovered at the scene.

Both the Chicago Police Department and the Independent Police Review Authority, which reviews police-involved shootings, are investigating.
