White Lodging cutting 50 jobs from Indiana headquarters

MERRILLVILLE, Ind. (AP) - A company that owns or operates dozens of hotels around the country says it is cutting about 50 jobs at its northwestern Indiana headquarters.

Merrillville-based White Lodging says in a state filing that the layoffs are because of a planned sale of part of its business. The layoffs are expected to take place by next April.

The (Northwest Indiana) Times reports White Lodging is selling off its contracts to operate 82 suburban hotels under the Marriott, IHG, Hilton and Hyatt names. The company plans to spend that money on a nationwide expansion to add 25 hotels and restaurant/bar concepts across the country over a three-year span.

Once the sales go through and those construction projects are complete, White Lodging will have about 100 hotels.
