Springfield's Frank Lloyd Wright house open late in December

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) - Christmas at the Dana-Thomas House State Historic Site in Springfield means decorating with floral designs using native plants and earth tones.

That follows the iconic home's theme envisioned by renowned architect Frank Lloyd Wright .

The house will stay open until 8 p.m. for Wednesday night downtown holiday walks in December. Also scheduled are weekend open houses featuring orchestral, string quartet and flute musical concerts during December.

Large groups and families interested in a tour should call ahead.

Volunteers with the Springfield Civic Garden Club spent hundreds of hours during November designing floral arrangements at the home completed in 1904 for Susan Lawrence Dana just blocks from the Illinois State Capitol.

It also donated $750 to improve holiday design lighting and various merchants donated lighting and Christmas trees and greens.
