Nunn nets 39, lifts NM past No. 16 Marquette women 88-87

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) - Jaisa Nunn converted a three-point play with 1.8 seconds to play and finished with a career-high 39 points, giving New Mexico an 88-87 upset win over No. 16 Marquette on Monday night.

Cherise Beynon missed a jumper from the foul line but Nunn grabbed the rebounded over Natisha Hiedeman on the right side of the lane and flipped the ball in before tumbling to the court.

Alllazia Blockton's long 3-pointer was off target at the buzzer for Marquette (0-1).

Nunn made 14 of 15 shots, 11 of 12 free throws and had a career-best 13 rebounds. She had 20 points in the second half as the Lobos (2-0) rallied from a 12-point first-quarter deficit. Freshman Jasmine Smith added 17 points.

Marquette rallied from seven down early in the fourth quarter, taking a 75-74 lead as Lauren Van Kleunen's 3-pointer capped an 8-0 run. Van Kleunen, who freshman who had 23 points, hit two free throws with 13.6 seconds to go to put the Golden Eagles up 87-85.

Brockton had 20 points, seven rebounds and five assists and Danielle King added 14 points, nine rebounds and seven assists for Marquette.
