Chicago alderman collapses during council budget hearing

CHICAGO (AP) - Chicago Alderman Willie Cochran collapsed during a city council budget hearing at City Hall.

Paramedics were called to the scene on Thursday. Chicago Police Superintendent Eddie Johnson was expected to testify about the police department's 2018 budget. Johnson says Cochran was responsive following the collapse. Alderman Carrie Austin shouted "Man down!" when she saw Cochran collapse. Several people rushed to his side.

Cochran late last year pleaded not guilty in a multi-count indictment including bribery and extortion charges.
