Indiana man gets 55 years for home invasion that injured 2

ROCKVILLE, Ind. (AP) - A western Indiana man has been sentenced to 55 years in prison after pleading guilty in a home invasion that injured a couple in their 90s.

Gary Sears Jr. was sentenced Tuesday in Parke County on burglary, criminal confinement and habitual offender charges.

Investigators say the Terre Haute man and a co-defendant broke into the home of a 90-year-old man and his 91-year-old wife in November 2016, attacked them, tied them up and fled with several items after ransacking their home.

The (Terre Haute) Tribune-Star reports the elderly victims freed themselves and summoned help. The man suffered a skull fracture and his wife was treated at a local hospital.

Twenty-nine-year-old Katrina Cottrell of Terre Haute faces a Jan. 23 trial on theft, burglary and other charges in the attack.
