Ferguson throws for 5 TDs, Maine beats Rhode Island 51-27

ORONO, Maine (AP) - Chris Ferguson threw for five touchdowns and Josh Mack rushed for 248 yards and another score as Maine dominated the final two quarters to beat Rhode Island 51-27 on Saturday in the 96th meeting between the teams.

The Black Bears (2-3, 1-3, Colonial Athletic Association) have now won 11 straight over Rhode Island (1-5, 0-3).

Micah Wright returned a punt 77 yards for a score late in the first half to give the Bears their first lead, taking a 23-21 advantage into the break.

Mack, who rushed for 185 yards in the second half, ran for one score and Ferguson, a freshman, passed for three more in the third quarter as Maine charged ahead 51-21 going into the fourth.

Jaleel Reed caught five passes for 123 yards and three touchdowns.

Rhode Island's Aaron Parker caught four passes for 95 yards and one score.
