Michigan City couple dies in LaPorte County highway crash

LAPORTE, Ind. (AP) - Authorities say a head-on crash on a northern Indiana highway has killed a Michigan City couple.

The LaPorte County Sheriff's Office says the crash Friday night on U.S. 20 about 15 miles (24 kilometers) west of South Bend occurred when an eastbound Ford Mustang crossed the median and collided with a westbound Honda minivan.

The LaPorte County Coroner's Office says the crash killed 47-year-old Honda driver Don Kaczmarek of Michigan City and his 49-year-old wife, Angie. The sheriff's office they were killed on impact

The office says the driver of the Ford, 40-year-old Tron Gorbonosenko of New Carlisle, was extricated from his vehicle and airlifted to a hospital.

Investigators say alcohol use likely was a factor in the crash.
