Aurora man guilty of felony domestic battery

An Aurora man could be sentenced to up to seven years in prison for battering a girlfriend in 2016.

Kane County Circuit Judge John A. Barsanti on Thursday convicted David L. Jones, 66, of the 700 block of Pennsylvania Avenue, of aggravated domestic battery and domestic battery, according to a news release issued Monday by the Kane County state's attorney's office.

Jones waived his right to a jury trial.

Kane County Assistant State's Attorneys Kaitlin Kerstetter and Sarah Seberger said that about 2:30 p.m. March 6, 2016, Jones went to the victim's home in Aurora, and the two began arguing. Jones grabbed the victim by the shirt and punched her in the abdomen.

As the victim tried to flee, Jones grabbed her from behind and wrapped his arm around her neck, which impeded her breathing. The victim struck Jones with a candlestick, and he released her.

Jones' next court appearance is 1:30 p.m. Nov. 15. He faces a sentence of 60 days in the Kane County jail, plus either probation or three to seven years in prison.

Jones remains free on bond.
