22 charged in gun, drug investigation targeting Aurora gang
AURORA, Ill. (AP) - Authorities say 22 people have been charged with gun and drug crimes following an investigation that targeted a suburban Chicago gang.
Kane County State's Attorney Joe McMahon says Aurora police and the ATF started investigating an Aurora gang and its associates in November. McMahon announced Friday his office has filed 52 criminal charges against 22 people.
Fourteen defendants were arrested Thursday. McMahon says two are in custody elsewhere, one was issued a summons to appear in court and five other defendants remain at large.
Authorities seized seven guns, ammunition, about 234 grams of cocaine and seven pounds of marijuana during the investigation and arrests.
McMahon says authorities hope the investigation "puts another dent in the violent crime in Aurora."
