Trump touts Pence's Indiana income tax cut during speech

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - President Donald Trump is touting an income tax cut championed by Mike Pence when he was Indiana's governor.

The president was in Indianapolis for a speech Wednesday, promoting a Republican effort to rewrite the federal tax code.

Trump cited as inspiration a 2013 income tax cut pushed by his vice president, as well as other cuts made by the Legislature.

Pence says his income tax cut is the biggest in Indiana history. That's true, though savings are modest for most people.

Trump acknowledged members of the state's congressional delegation in attendance.

He told Sen. Joe Donnelly that he will campaign against him in 2018 if the Democrat doesn't vote for the GOP tax plan.

The president also flubbed a shout-out to Republican Rep. Luke Messer, calling him "Mike Messer."
