Hurricane pushes long-suffering Puerto Rico to the edge

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico (AP) - Puerto Rico faces a long road to recovery from Hurricane Maria, and it's not all because of the storm.

The island was suffering through a decade of economic decline before the hurricane ravaged Puerto Rico this week. It is in the grips of a $73 billion debt crisis, has an unemployment rate higher than that of any U.S. state and set a record for foreclosures last year.

Now, with power out for nearly all 3.4 million residents, many are deciding whether they should leave.

Cafe owner Rosa Maria Almonte says: "I don't know if I can keep going."
