Illinois Tollway worker stuck, killed by semi near Chicago

ALSIP, Ill. (AP) - An Illinois Tollway worker has been struck and killed by semi-trailer truck traveling on Interstate-294 south of Chicago.

Authorities say the driver of the semi drove off after sideswiping the worker and his vehicle on Monday afternoon.

Illinois State Police say the 48-year-old worker was struck as he was picking up debris on the right shoulder of the southbound lanes of I-294 in Alsip.

The Cook County medical examiner's office did not release the victim's name. Tollway officials say they will not release any personal information about the worker pending notification of his family.
