Carter leads Grambling to 23-10 win over Northwestern St.

GRAMBLING, La. (AP) - Martez Carter rushed for 138 yards and one touchdown and Devante Kincade threw for 231 yards and another score as Grambling picked up its first win of the season, beating Northwestern State 23-10 on Saturday night.

Carter scored from the 2 on Grambling's first possession and Marc Orozco kicked an 18-yard field goal to go ahead 10-0.

Northwestern State's J.D. Almond hit Marquisian Chapman on a 14-yard scoring strike to close to 17-10 at the start of the second period. Grambling (1-1) answered quickly when Kincade passed to Darrell Clark from the 24 for a score.

NSU (0-2) was driving late in the fourth, but the Grambling defense held. Three plays later Carter broke for a 50-yard gain to NSU's 13 with 3:15 left in the game. The Demons held them to a 26-yard field goal for the final score with 1:31 left.

Almond threw for 241 yards and one score for NSU (0-2).
