The Latest: Anderson leads Querrey 2 sets to 1 at US Open

Kevin Anderson is one set away from reaching first Grand Slam semifinal at age 31.
The 28th-seeded Anderson leads 17th-seeded Sam Querrey 7-6 (5), 6-7 (9), 6-3 as their U.S. Open quarterfinal heads to the fourth set.
Anderson held a set point in the second tiebreaker, but Querrey converted on his eighth chance to take that set.
In the third, Anderson broke to go up 4-2 and held serve from there, ending that set with a forehand winner.

Venus Williams returned to the U.S. Open semifinals for the first time since 2010 by coming back in the third set to beat Petra Kvitova 6-3, 3-6, 7-6 (2).
At 37, Williams is the oldest women's semifinalist at any Grand Slam tournament since Martina Navratilova at Wimbledon in 1994.
This is the latest step in a remarkable renaissance for Williams, who revealed in 2011 she had been diagnosed with an energy-sapping autoimmune disease. She made it to the Australian Open final in January of this year, then the Wimbledon final in July.
She will face unseeded Sloane Stephens in an all-American semifinal on Thursday.

The U.S. Open's schedule is being adjusted because of a forecast calling for rain.
There will be no men's doubles, mixed doubles or junior matches played Wednesday.
The four remaining singles quarterfinals - two men's and two women's - will be played in Arthur Ashe Stadium, as planned. That is the tournament's only court with a retractable roof.
Three women's doubles matches will be on the schedule at the Grandstand arena.

Venus Williams and Petra Kvitova are heading to a third set in their U.S. Open quarterfinal.
Williams grabbed the opening set 6-3. Kvitova took the second by the same score.

The U.S. Open quarterfinal between Venus Williams and Petra Kvitova is being delayed in the second set while the retractable roof above Arthur Ashe Stadium is closed because of rain.
The break comes with Kvitova leading by a break in the set at 3-0. Williams won the opening set 6-3.
The winner will face Sloane Stephens in the semifinals.

Sloane Stephens reached her first Grand Slam semifinal since 2013 by beating 16th-seeded Anastasija Sevastova 6-3, 3-6, 7-6 (4) at the U.S. Open.
The 83rd-ranked Stephens has won 13 of her past 15 matches. She was one of four American women in the quarterfinals at Flushing Meadows, the most since five made it that far 15 years ago.
Sevastova beat Maria Sharapova in the fourth round and was trying to reach the first major semifinal of her career. She received treatment from a trainer late in the first set Tuesday for a problem with her upper right leg.
Stephens went 11 months between tournaments because of surgery on her left foot in January, returning to competition at Wimbledon in July.
Her ranking was 934th before she reached consecutive semifinals at hard-court tournaments in Toronto and Cincinnati in August.
Her only previous trip to the final four at a major tournament came at the Australian Open four years ago.

Mike Bryan has become the winningest men's doubles player with his 1,052nd career victory.
Bryan teamed with his twin brother, Bob, to beat the French team of Julien Benneteau and Edouard Roger-Vasselin 6-3, 7-5 and reach the U.S. Open semifinals.
Mike Bryan improved to 1,052-330, a .761 winning percentage. He passed Canadian Daniel Nestor, who has 1,051 victories.
The Bryan brothers, seeking their record 17th Grand Slam doubles title, are the No. 5 seeds and will next play the 11th-seeded Spanish duo of Feliciano Lopez and Marc Lopez.
Bob Bryan has 1,038 career victories.

Sloane Stephens and 16th-seeded Anastasija Sevastova are heading to a third set in their U.S. Open quarterfinal.
Stephens took the first set 6-3. Sevastova grabbed the second by the same score.
Neither has ever been to the semifinals at Flushing Meadows.
Sevastova eliminated Maria Sharapova in the fourth round.

Pablo Carreno Busta is into the semifinals of a Grand Slam tournament for the first time.
The No. 12 seed beat No. 29 Diego Schwartzman 6-4, 6-4, 6-2 in the first men's quarterfinal.
Carreno Busta easily handled his first seeded player at this U.S. Open and still hasn't dropped a set in the tournament. He will face No. 17 Sam Querrey or No. 28 Kevin Anderson in the semifinals.

The No. 12 seed leads No. 29 seed Diego Schwartzman of Argentina 6-4, 6-4.
Carreno Busta still hasn't dropped a set in the tournament.
The Spaniard also reached the quarterfinals of the French Open but had to retire in his match against eventual champion Rafael Nadal because of an abdominal fracture that forced him to miss Wimbledon.

The No. 12 seed from Spain leads No. 29 seed Diego Schwartzman of Argentina 6-4 in a men's quarterfinal match.
Carreno Busta became the first player in the Open era to face four qualifiers in a Grand Slam tournament. He didn't drop a set against any of them, reaching the quarters by eliminating Canadian teenager Denis Shapovalov in the fourth round.
Carreno Busta has never reached a major semifinal.

Venus Williams is trying to reach the U.S. Open semifinals for the first time since 2010.
Sam Querrey can end a drought that's even longer for American men.
The ninth-seeded Williams meets No. 13 Petra Kvitova on Tuesday night in a quarterfinal matchup of former Grand Slam champions. The 17th-seeded Querrey takes on No. 28 Kevin Anderson of South Africa.
The U.S. hasn't had a men's semifinalist at its home major since Andy Roddick in 2006. The Americans haven't had any men's Grand Slam champion since Roddick won the tournament in 2003.
Another American, Sloane Stephens, faces No. 16 Anastasija Sevastova of Latvia. Ranked 83rd, Stephens is bidding to become the seventh player outside the top 50 to reach the semis since the computer rankings began in 1975.
The other men's quarterfinal pits Pablo Carreno Busta of Spain against Diego Schwartzman of Argentina.
