Thunderstorms blamed for flooding, fires in Fort Wayne area

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (AP) - Thunderstorms are being blamed for flooding and fires in the Fort Wayne area.

Firefighters told WANE-TV that lightning strikes caused three fires with 40 minutes Tuesday morning on the city's southwest side.

The Journal Gazette reports an Ivy Tech Community College campus canceled Tuesday classes because of flooding in buildings.

Fort Wayne Community Schools spokeswoman Krista Stockman flash flooding of roadways created busing delays for high schools.

The National Weather Service says 4ˆ½ inches of rain fell Tuesday at one location in the northwest part of Allen County. It says rainfall totals of more than 3ˆ½ inches were recorded at other locations in the county.
