East Carolina says strong safety Travon Simmons to transfer

GREENVILLE, N.C. (AP) - East Carolina says strong safety Travon Simmons is transferring.

Coach Scottie Montgomery on Tuesday said Simmons has been granted a full release.

Simmons was a two-year starter who was listed as backup on the preseason depth chart and made 24 starts in 33 games with 105 tackles and 14 passes broken up.

He will have one year of eligibility remaining and was on track to graduate from East Carolina in December.
