Foundation donates $300K for Indiana fieldhouse upgrades

JEFFERSONVILLE, Ind. (AP) - A southern Indiana foundation has donated $300,000 to help with the planned renovation of an 80-year-old fieldhouse that's a local landmark.

The Paul Ogle Foundation's gift boosts to $545,000 the total raised to date for the estimated $1.8 million needed to rehabilitate the Nachand Fieldhouse.

The fieldhouse built in 1937 in the Ohio River city of Jeffersonville was the longtime home to the Jeffersonville Red Devils basketball teams and hosted the area's sectional basketball games until 1971. It's now a community center.

Mayor Mike Moore praised the Ogle Foundation's donation, saying it will help ensure the fieldhouse "remains for generations to come."

The News and Tribune reports (http://bit.ly/2gZP5Z7 ) the fieldhouse's needed improvements include air conditioning so the gym can be used year-round.
