The Latest: Irvin says rape allegation cost him millions

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (AP) - The Latest on former Dallas Cowboys football star Michael Irvin being cleared of sexual assault allegations (all times local):

3:00 p.m.

Former Dallas Cowboys star Michael Irvin says he lost "millions" of dollars in endorsements and business deals because of a sexual assault investigation that resulted in no charges.

Irvin said during a news conference Monday that was "devastated" by the allegation made by a 27-year-old woman he said he considered a friend. Irvin says committing murder is the only thing worse than falsely accusing someone of rape.

Florida prosecutors said Monday there's insufficient evidence to file sexual assault charges against the 51-year-old Hall of Famer. They said video from the hotel, the lack of physical evidence and the accuser's drug use and conflicting stories made it impossible to prove her allegations beyond a reasonable doubt. The woman's name has been redacted from their report into the March incident in Fort Lauderdale.

Prosecutors say there's insufficient evidence to file sexual assault charges against Michael Irvin, a former football star for the Dallas Cowboys and the University of Miami.

A 27-year-old woman accused Irvin of drugging and sexually assaulting her at the W Hotel in Fort Lauderdale in March. The 51-year-old Irvin denied the allegations.

Broward State Attorney's officials said in an email that there was insufficient evidence to file charges, adding that they would have had a difficult time getting a conviction.

Irvin's lawyer Ken Padowitz has called a 2 p.m. news conference in Fort Lauderdale to discuss the case.
