Love fair food? Now you can pig out and win at state fair

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) - Fans of fair food such as corndogs and funnel cakes will get the chance to really pig out at this year's Illinois State Fair - and win a prize for doing it.

Fair officials said Friday there will be a competitive eating competition every day of the fair. Three contestants will compete to eat the most food in five minutes.

Vice President of Consumer Sales and Marketing Bryan Groves says it's "a unique way to highlight the traditional fair food and make people aware of all the fantastic food options" at the annual event.

Among the foods will be sweet corn, watermelon and pork chop sandwiches.

The contests are being offered through a partnership with the Springfield State Journal-Register.

The fair will be held Aug. 10 through Aug. 20.
