Ex-candidate nominated to fill seat on Mundelein board

Former Mundelein village board candidate Scott Black has been nominated to fill a vacancy on the panel.

Black, who unsuccessfully sought a trustee seat in April, is Mayor Steve Lentz's choice to replace ex-trustee Dakotah Norton, who quit in June.

It now falls to the village board to approve or reject Black's appointment. Trustees will consider the nomination and vote when they meet at 7 p.m. Monday at village hall, 300 Plaza Circle.

Black placed fifth in the race for three board seats in the April election. He campaigned with Lentz, although they weren't on a formal slate together.

Lentz won re-election, defeating challenger Holly Kim by five votes.

Black has served for 21 years on the village's planning and zoning commission, which helps shape residential and commercial development. He has been the commission's chairman for the last 10 years.

Lentz said that experience "makes me confident he will serve our village well."

Black touted his experience when running for the village board. He also supported the ongoing redevelopment of the downtown area, calling it a priority.

"Mundelein is on the cusp of some exciting changes, particularly in regards to downtown redevelopment, and I plan on helping to implement them," he said at the time.

Black's name initially wasn't included on the agenda for Monday's board meeting. Lentz said he wanted to make the nominee public early so residents could have a couple days to consider the nomination and share their opinions at the meeting before the board votes.
