Bloomington woman gets 8 years in husband's stabbing death

EUREKA, Ill. (AP) - A Bloomington woman has been sentenced to eight years in prison for her husband's stabbing death last fall.

Sarah Mellor is eligible for time served in jail since she was arrested in October 2016 following Mark Mellor's death. Prosecutors sought a 12-year term. Mellor's defense attorney asked for probation or periodic imprisonment. The 30-year-old Mellor previously pleaded guilty to second-degree murder.

The (Bloomington) Pantagraph reports (http://bit.ly/2u5zfPt) 31-year-old Mark Mellor was stabbed in the chest during a struggle at a campground near Carlock. Sarah Mellor drove him to the hospital with other family members. She gave emotional testimony Tuesday in Woodford County court, saying stress over her husband's job took a toll on their marriage.

Judge Michael Stroh said "good people sometimes do bad things" but that doesn't excuse them from consequences.
