Workers clean up damage after Indiana cemetery vandalism

FRANKLIN, Ind. (AP) - Workers are cleaning up damage after at least dozen headstones were toppled at a cemetery in central Indiana.

The damage was discovered this week at Greenlawn Cemetery in Franklin. Officials say one person or multiple people struck gravestones scattered throughout the oldest parts of the cemetery, including some headstones that are more than 100 years old.

Two angel statues were damaged during vandalism several years ago. During the recent vandalism, one of the angels was knocked over.

The Franklin Police Department is investigating and is asking anyone with information about the vandalism to contact police. The damage comes ahead of visits to the cemetery for the Memorial Day weekend, including plans to place flags at veterans' graves.
