Baseball: Barrington powers past Larkin; Maine West stuns Oak Park
Clark Elliott, Justin Walker and Will Yorton homered, and Eric Kozlowski doubled twice to power Barrington's baseball team past Larkin 15-0 in 4 innings Wednesday in the Broncos' postseason opener.
Barrington (28-7) advances to Saturday's Class 4A Jacobs regional final, where it will face the winner of Thursday's matchup between McHenry and Jacobs.
Kozlowski finished with 3 hits for the Mid-Suburban League champs, and Blake Gosswein, Tyler Acosta, Yorton, Elliott and Walker had 2 hits apiece.
Ryan Loutos pitched the first 3 innings and allowed 2 hits with 5 strikeouts to get the win, and Nick Gardner tossed 1 perfect relief inning.
Maine West 5, Oak Park-River Forest 2: Sam Kindle helped the No. 14 seed Warriors eliminate the Lane sectional's No. 2 seed by tossing an exceptional start.
Kindle, a senior, allowed 2 hits with 3 strikeouts in 6⅔ innings in Class 4A regional semifinal play at Niles North.
Maine West (11-20) came up with 3 runs in the fourth inning on RBI singles from Jeff Mustari, Matt Johnston and a bases-loaded walk from Josh Wastyn.
Nick Stone put the Warriors up 5-1 with a 2-run homer in the fifth.
OPRF rallied for a run in the bottom of the seventh, but Alex Zimmerman and Matt Willett each got 1 out in relief of Kindle.
Maine West advances to an 11 a.m. Saturday regional final at Niles North against the winner of Thursday's matchup between No. 7 York and No. 10 Niles North.
South Elgin 5, Elk Grove 0: Jack Stancl allowed the Grenadiers just 4 hits and struck out six as Elk Grove bowed out of the Addison Trail regional.
Ryne Singsank had 2 hits for Elk Grove (14-19) and Ryan Uehara and Nick Hofmann had 1 each.
Patrick Keaty, Kevin Barry, Bryant Diel and Adam Walker each doubled for South Elgin, which advances to face the winner of Thursday's Geneva/Addison Trail game in the regional final at 10 a.m. Saturday.
Libertyville 5, Wheeling 1: Riley Gowens struck out 11 and allowed 3 hits through 6⅔ innings as second-seeded Libertyville won in the Highland Park regional.
Tim Jean finished 2-for-3 with a double and drove in 2 runs, and Dan Marks and Nick Angel also had 2 hits for Libertyville (29-6).
Jack Splett finished 2-for-4 for No. 15 seed Wheeling (15-19-1), and Cade Kaplan and Zach Yfantis also had hits.
Ben Land faced the last two Wheeling hitters for Libertyville, which earned a spot in Saturday's 11 a.m. regional final against the winner of Thursday's game between No. 7 Lake Zurich and No. 10 Highland Park.
St. Viator postponed: In Class 3A regional action, St. Viator's semifinal game against Chicago Northside was rescheduled to 2 p.m. Thursday. The other semifinal at St. Viator, featuring Vernon Hills and Woodstock, will be begin following the Viator-Northside game at about 4:30 p.m. Thursday.
