Police: Man fires at Indiana officers, shoots self in head

NORTH JUDSON, Ind. (AP) - Police say a man fired at officers from a pickup truck during a chase in northwestern Indiana before stopping and shooting himself in the head.

Indiana State Police say in a statement that the 34-year-old North Judson man was taken to a hospital in South Bend, where he was listed in critical condition. No officers were injured in Thursday's chase, which ended along a rural roadway in La Porte County.

Police say a North Judson officer had recognized the pickup driver, who was wanted on an arrest warrant, and stopped him. Police say the man gave false information about his identify and fled, firing twice during the pursuit at two officers from North Judson and a sheriff's officer from Starke County.

State police are investigating.
