City of Chicago settles lawsuit with exonerated man

CHICAGO (AP) - The city of Chicago has settled a lawsuit filed by a man wrongly convicted for the 1994 rape and murder of a woman.

The lawsuit filed by Terrill Swift is the first by one of the four teens convicted of killing 30-year-old Nina Glover to be settled. The other three, Michael Saunders, Vincent Thames and Harold Richardson, also filed lawsuits naming the city, several Chicago police officers and other public entities.

The Cook County State's Attorney's office decided in 2012 not to retry the men after a judge overturned their convictions in November 2011. DNA evidence linked another person to the crime.

The Chicago Tribune reports (http://trib.in/2qx1wOu ) the terms of Swift's settlement reached in Cook County Circuit Court will be revealed when it's approved by the Chicago City Council.

Neither plaintiff's attorney Locke Bowman, nor a spokesman for the city's law department would comment on the settlement.
