LA Galaxy hand Red Bulls rare defeat at home

HARRISON, New Jersey (AP) - Romain Alessandrini scored two early goals a minute apart to help the Los Angeles Galaxy defeat New York 3-1 on Sunday and end the Red Bulls' 19-game home unbeaten streak.

Alessandrini struck twice inside the first 10 minutes, the first from a free kick, then the second a minute later when he connected with a cross from Giovani dos Santos.

Allesandrini also had a hand in LA's third goal, in the 78th minute, when he was pulled down by Mike Grella in the box, earning a penalty which dos Santos calmly converted from the spot.

Daniel Royer scored a consolation goal in stoppage time for the Red Bulls, who had not lost at home since April 24, 2016.

NYCFC 1, FC DALLAS 1

FRISCO, Texas (AP) - Dallas maintained its record as the only unbeaten side in the MLS this season after drawing 1-1 at home to New York City FC.

Kellyn Acosta gave Dallas the lead in the 20th minute when he rifled the ball into the net from close-range.

New York equalized in the 68th minute through Thomas McNamara, who reacted quickly to be the first to the rebound after David Villa's free kick struck the crossbar, heading the ball in the goal then tumbling into the back of the net himself.

Dallas has gone nine games unbeaten this season. The record for the best start to a season is 12 games without a loss, held by four teams.

ATLANTA UNITED 1, TIMBERS 1

PORTLAND, Oregon (AP) - Defender Liam Ridgewell replied with a quick equalizer to earn Portland a 1-1 draw with Atlanta.

Atlanta went ahead one minute into the second half when Julian Gressel scored from the edge of the box, angling the ball past the outstretched arms of Portland goalkeeper Jake Gleeson.

Portland responded just four minutes later when Ridgewell scored, heading the ball into the ball after being left unmarked off a free kick.

Atlanta almost took all three points when David Guzman unleashed a powerful shot in stoppage time that hit the post.
