13 Alcorn players cleared, 7 guilty in campus fight

PORT GIBSON, Miss. (AP) - Thirteen of the 20 Alcorn State football players arrested in connection with an April 10 campus fight have had misdemeanor charges dropped or dismissed, while the other seven were found guilty of simple assault.

Claiborne County Justice Court Judge Mary C. Curry heard testimony Friday from dozens of football players and other Alcorn students before rendering her decision.

The Clarion-Ledger (http://on.thec-l.com/2qEbu1C ) reports the seven players convicted were All-SWAC wide receiver Marquis Warford, All-SWAC running back Arron Baker, running back Silas Spearman, defensive back Taurence Wilson, defensive lineman Kwanzi Jackson, linebacker Terry Whittington and defensive lineman Randall Tucker.

Curry believed the testimony of Varrick Dyer Jr. who identified the defendants as those who assaulted him shortly after the fight in the cafeteria. All of the players involved denied the allegations.
