2 sentenced for shooting that paralyzed "Hoop Dreams" player

CHICAGO (AP) - Two men convicted in a 2014 shooting that left Chicago high school assistant basketball coach paralyzed have each received 59-year prison sentences.

Cook County Circuit Judge Thomas Byrne sentenced Cedryck Davis and Deandre Thompson on Thursday. Byrne denounced the two men for making Shawn Harrington "dependent on the care of others for the rest of his life."

Authorities said the pair fired on Harrington's vehicle mistakenly believing it was that of a rival

Harrington was a Marshall High School assistant when they won 2008 Illinois state championship. He was on the Marshall team featured in the 1994 documentary "Hoop Dreams."

Harrington was shot in the spine when his van was fired on while stopped at a traffic light. He was driving his then 15-year-old daughter to school at the time.
