Florida State signs junior college forward Hatty Nawezhi

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) - Junior college standout Hatty Nawezhi has signed a national letter of intent to play women's basketball at Florida State.

Nawezhi, who is from Brussels, Belgium, averaged 13.4 points and 9.7 rebounds for Northeastern Oklahoma A&M this past season and was a first-team National Junior College Athletic Association All-America selection.

The 6-foot-2 forward (whose last name is pronounced Nah-We-Z) also is the school's career leader in blocked shots with 141. She will have two years of eligibility remaining and helps add some depth in the post after the graduations of Ivey Slaughter and Kai James.

The Seminoles were 28-7 this past season and advanced to the Elite Eight for the second time in three seasons before losing to eventual national champion South Carolina in the Stockton Regional final.
