No reduced sentence for Byrd-Bennett

So here we are once again. Only four short years ago we had Jesse Jackson, Jr. pleading for a reduced sentence in his felony conviction.

Today we learn that Barbara Byrd-Bennett has asked us to believe that she should receive a reduced sentence for her felony conviction due to "her unique expertise" that could be put to better use through "very substantial community service."

Seriously? I simply love how the abusers of the public trust become the overnight contrite. Byrd-Bennett suggests that she "wants others to learn from her mistakes" and that community service would be the best avenue for such learning. Horse Hockey! Such learning would best be applied by having those "others" see her serve 7.5 years in a state prison.

These individuals have confessed to breaking several laws and violating the trust placed in them by the citizens of Illinois. Regardless of the "spin" they are criminals and should pay, and pay dearly, for their egregious and repulsive behavior.
